Additional Support

Losing a child is one of the hardest things that anyone could go through. The penetrating heartache can often feel debilitating.

When our little girl died in April 2021, I suffered a desperation to be connected with women who had experienced the same. I felt so alone.

It doesn’t matter at what stage your child dies, the pain you feel is immeasurable and personal to you. I didn’t know where to look for support, I didn’t know who to contact.

I wanted to put together a short directory of some of the places that offered support so that if you or someone you know suffers a loss, there is a list of places that will offer them support, however much you need.

This list is not exhaustive but is a good place to start if you need support.

Sands - Stillbirth & Neonatal Death Charity

Sands offers support via phone, email, and social media. They also have local support groups and a bereavement support app.

Tommy’s offers a huge amount of information on their website with regards to all types of loss including miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, ectopic pregnancy and molar pregnancy.

Petals - The Baby Loss Counselling Charity

Petals originally stood for Pregnancy Expectations Trauma and Loss Society. They now work to offer counselling to bereaved parents who have experienced child loss.

The Mariposa Trust & Saying Goodbye

The Mariposa Trust is the overarching umbrella charity with several divisions which provide support for those who have lost their children at any stage, support for women who are pregnant or considering pregnancy after loss, support for people journeying through adoption and support for those supporting others through loss.

Aching Arms

Offering comfort to families who have experienced loss during pregnancy, at birth or soon after. Aching Arms provide families with memory bears.

Lullaby Trust

The journey of grief after any kind of baby loss is harrowing and can be a lonely road but please remember you are not alone. Please reach out if you need to talk to someone. Someone is always ready to listen.
